It’s still raining.
June 22, 2008End of Year Show
June 20, 2008Our end of year show launched on the 17th with jaw dropping success. The college was buzzing with students, there families and just about anyone who wanted to take a look. With the majority of students producing consistently good work there was definitely something for everyone to see. My favourite work was produced by the graphic designers, glass workers and painters with one particular mature student blowing me away with her Mondrian style geometric paintings.
The photography show came together surprisingly well with some notable shots from Michael Lowey, Terry Johnson and Emma Woodall. Faith Holgate gave everyone something to talk about with her abstract ‘undressing’ shots. Our class stands divided in opinion about her work but I really appreciate the bold ideas behind it. Chimerical and sensual, the only images in show depicting nudity, no matter which side of the fence everyone sat at least she had everyone’s attention. The most impressive individual image on show belonged to Hannah Wells with her leading red photograph being truly remarkable. The subject of the photo was Emma Nelson who in turn pulled off an impressive show of her own by scrapping the usual starkness of the gallery for her own brick wall effect to tie in with her street photography.
As for my own work I could not really say, I got a little drunk before hand and avoided the publics opinion however I was told my images got a few laughs which is really nice to hear. As you can see from the above photo we were all a little pushed for space, I still feel me and Amy Asten got the worst of it though.
